The TaylorMade M6 Rescue completes the range of clubs released by the Californian company this January, and they have continued in typical TaylorMade fashion by declaring that this latest release is their longest and most versatile hybrid to date.

TaylorMade M6 Rescue Hybrid

The main development of the M6 rescue over its M4 predecessor is the introduction of TaylorMade’s Twist Face technology, as seen in the M5 and M6 driver and fairway woods. This was initially added to the driver and fairways last year, and focuses on optimising different areas of the club face to produce stronger and straighter ball flights.

However, the smaller face size of the rescue when compared to the driver and fairway wood meant that TaylorMade had to make the curvature of the face even more pronounced for it to have the same effect. In order to do so the two-toned crown, which has now become symbolic of TaylorMade woods in the last few years, was designed differently to ensure that this curvature does not intrude when the golfer looks down at the ball.

The M6 rescue has a steel body construction with a low Centre of Gravity (CG) to provide easy launch and more forgiveness, and also features a stepped crown for easy framing of the ball when aligning yourself.

The face is both thinner and faster than the previous M4 rescue, which is said to improve ball speed and therefore overall distance.

The Speed Pocket, also aiming to raise ball speeds particularly on strikes lower on the face, has been redesigned to make it more flexible and therefore more effective. It may not have the speed injected face seen in the driver, but the slot is filled with a thermoplastic polyrethane (TPU) which sits flush on the sole and attempts to provide smoother turf interaction.

TaylorMade M6 Rescue Hybrid

The M6 rescue is available from 15th February at an RRP of £229, and comes in a range of lofts from a 19 degree 3-hybrid to a 31 degree 7-hybrid so that you can coordinate with the rest of your clubs and their yardages.

In the past, it could have been argued that TaylorMade has slightly overlooked hybrids in favour of drivers and fairways in terms of both design and marketing. However, with the M6 rescue and the amount of technology TaylorMade have managed to squeeze into such a small head, mirroring that of it's driver and fairway models, it seems this is a thing of the past.

For many golfers, choosing to play a higher lofted hybrid over a standard long iron could be beneficial to your scores. TaylorMade seem to be taking notice of this trend, is it time you did too?
