One of the most popular categories of iron over the last few years has been the 'players-distance iron', and Ping's latest i530, which replaces the i525, is yet another addition to this sector.
Designed for golfers who desire the look of a blade, but need a little more help generating distance, the i530 has been engineered to deliver a combination of high ball speeds and precision for lower scores on the course.

The distance gains in the i530 irons come from a number of different areas, including an internal weight pad which provides a deeper, thinner transition from face-to-sole to encourage more face flexion. This also helps move mass down in the head for a lower centre of gravity, promoting more ball speed.
The forged, flexible maraging steel face is welded to a stainless steel hollow body, while a polymer on the back of the face inside the head improves feel and sound.
Ping have moved the centre of gravity lower down, closer to where golfers are more likely to strike the ball, and the lofts have been distance-optimised to ensure more distance and a higher maximum height, meaning that you'll still have the chance to hold the green on approach shots.
The iron features a thin top line, narrow sole and shallow face height which is designed to appeal to blade users, with Ping using a new machining technique to thin the back wall of the head. This saves weight to increase forgiveness and tighten dispersion, providing better accuracy as well as more distance.
MicroMax grooves combine with a hydropearl chrome 2.0 finish, ensuring consistent launch and spin in a variety of different weather conditions.
Available now, the Ping i530 irons come with the option of Standard, Power Spec and Retro Spec lofts. They are available in 4-PW with an optional UW.
The irons are priced at £190 per club for steel shafts, and £200 per club with graphite shafts.
