If you are familiar with the Ping G range of irons then you may think that the G30 range has not changed much and to be honest, you are right in some respects.

The overall shape and size of the Ping G30 irons is almost the same, but when Ping has one of the proven and best selling models in the market they are right not to mess around with it too much.

Ping G30 Iron

On the exterior of the iron the sole looks a little different as the flange looks like it has been reduced at first glance, but actually the extra trailing edge near the toe has been extended further down the back of the club, which I think looks better.

Ping G30 Iron sole

Ping say they have also tweaked the camber or curvature on the sole of the G30 to help it go through the turf more easily without digging and it did seem marginally better than the G25 iron during our testing.

Usually most of the tweaking in these types of irons comes in the cavity as the positioning of any insert and badges helps to move the centre of gravity (CG) around and changes the sound and feel.

Ping G30 G25 Iron Comparison

In the G30, Ping's Custom Tuning Port (CTP) is a little lower and wider than before and the muscle bar across the back a little higher. This makes the G30 sound and feel much better and I would liken it to some of the better player cavity backs on the market, which is about the best compliment I can give it.

The cavity behind the toe area is a little bigger and this helps increase the moment of inertia (MOI) for greater forgiveness. This does mean you can just see the back of the sole on the 4 and 5-iron at address, which may put some people off.

Ping G30 Iron Cavity

It also results in a fractionally higher ball flight than before but it is still penetrating enough, so if you need assistance in getting the ball up then these are the irons for you.

Ping G30 Iron Address

In fact the G30 could be the irons for a lot of people as the forgiveness and ease of use will suit mid to high handicaps. Even high single figure players who find the i25 irons a little compact should consider the G30 as the sound, feel and control is excellent.

Ping G30 Iron

The larger heads do have a little more offset but it decreases in the shorter irons, which also have shorter heads to make them feel more compact without trading in any performance. The G30 irons will make the game easier to play and everyone can do with a little bit of that.

Love the G30’s. Just picked up the 4-AW Steel Shaft Regular Flex. My second set of Pings. Had the G20’s before. Switched than to Taylormade. I’ll stick with Pings forever. A very exceptional iron.

I just bought my G30's a month ago. These were the first clubs I have bought in 27 years. I just loved my 845's and had a hard time letting go. Plus I wasn't able to play very much over those 27 years with travel softball and baseball taking up all my time. I was a 9 handicap at one time and I feel with the G30's I will be back to a 9 or even better. For me they are a forgiving club and my hits are still good shots. So far, I love them.

Changed from AeroBurner's to Ping G30's. Excellent clubs, more feel and easy to hit.

Class!!

April 2017

I love the clubs but I have also lost 5 weight failures from a set bought in April this year. Given the other comment regarding an April 2017 weight failure, I wonder if there is a duff batch out there? Waiting for my replacement set.

April 2017

My g irons have suffered 6 detached weight failures and have been returned to ping. Not recommended.

February 2017

I am hitting the ball straighter than ever, not a lot more distance but straighter.

January 2017

Having now suffered two failures of the club head weight detaching from the club I am afraid I can not recommend this set of golf clubs. I am awaiting a response from Ping and the return or replacement of my clubs.

April 2016

Very balanced, great sound and feel. I'll be playing with them for a while.

I replaced my Ping G20's with G30's. Great decision - my son will really enjoy the G20's. As for me, I really am liking the G30's. The G30's aren't necessarily longer than the G20's, but I'm finding the lower offset in the scoring irons has really improved my accuracy. I had a tendency to pull the ball with the G20's; not so with the G30's. The same swing that occasionally produced a pull is now producing a gentle draw. I'm sporting an 11.6 USGA index and have increased my GIR - more greens means more pars and birdies.

November 2015

I migrated from the G20's stock graphite to the G30's stock graphite. I have played the G30's for about 8 rounds. I have had more mis-hits with the G30's in 8 rounds than I had with the G20's in 40 rounds. I was expecting a pretty seamless transition with the G30's given I hit them great on the simulator and the fake turf at Golfsmith. I am a 9 handicap and was able to draw the ball nicely with the G20's when on my game. I now have a much more difficult time hitting a draw and nice hits have even tended to fade on me. When I hit the G30's well, there is more distance to be had and the look at set up is nicer as well with the G30's. Here is where I think purchasers of the G30 irons should be cautious. The degree of offset is much less pronounced with the G30's and this may affect your game until you re-acclimate with the new clubs. The stock graphite shafts in the G30s may be a little stiffer than on the G20s. The longer length of the shafts can cause some pushing of your shots. And finally, getting fitted on simulators with fake grass can be a little misleading. Definitely not easier to hit than the G20s right out of the box. Still hoping to change that.

October 2015

I have played G30 irons for a couple of months now . They are by far the best irons I have played.

September 2015

Just switched from blades back to game improvement irons and the G30's are amazing. They are straight and go through the turf great. Very easy to hit and so forgiving. I'm a 10 handicap and have played blades for several years, but I'm back to game improvement irons and love them!!

July 2015

They G30 irons look, feel and play amazing.
