One glance at the Nike Method Converge putter and the striking black and red colour scheme grabs the attention.
What catches your eye is not only aesthetic as the vibrant red substance also plays a key role in the technology of the putter. Nike calls this proprietary resin polymer RZN and aficionados of the swoosh will know that it was inspired by the the core of their golf balls and was last seen in insert of the Nike Vapor Pro Combo Irons.
In the Method Converge putter the RZN layer between the 304 Stainless Steel body allows for "active management" of forgiveness that results in a tighter dispersion pattern. Nike says that in robot testing this accuracy is increased by 10% from a distance of 21 feet.
RZN is also found in the Tour-proven groove insert, a variation of which we have seen across a number of Nike method models, softening the feel from the face and delivering a faster forward roll.
The RZN has been put to good use visually in the Method Converge as Nike has styled the putter to reveal the RZN to form a "T" shaped alignment aid that assists in lining up the putter properly at address.
The Method Converge putters also feature what Nike calls RTS - Return To Square. What this boils down to is different models in the range have been designed for players with different types of stroke. Each style suits the the stroke so that the putter blade is returned to a square position at impact.
The Straight putters, the S1-12 (pictured below) and S2-12 are Stablity designed and built for golfers with a square path to their stroke.
The B1-01 blade putter is what Nike call a Slight Arc putter and is designed for golfers with a slightly curved path to their stroke.
Finally golfers with a more open and closed path in their stroke will be better off with the M1-08 mallet putter that sits in what Nike calls the Arc stroke type.
An interesting feature of the Converge is that the weight of the putter head changes depending on the length of the shaft you have chosen. The shorter lengths at 32 and 33 inches have a head that weighs 360g, whilist the longer 34 to 37 inches length putters have a head that weights 15g less at 345g.
The weight in the head is positioned towards the perimeter by visible sole weights to increase the stability of the putter during the stroke. Although these weights are fixed in the standard versions of the Converge, if you use the Custom ordering process and get fitted these weights can be adjusted.
