Along with the launch of Callaway's new Apex line of irons comes an update to the Apex Utility Wood, which has become popular with a number of players on Tour as a combination of the best aspects of a hybrid and a fairway wood.
The latest model continues on the theme set by the first Apex UW, which has been used by the likes of Phil Mickelson in the last couple of years, and is designed for better players to use off the tee on tight driving holes, from the fairway on par 5s, or even from the rough.
Designed in conjuction with Tour-pro feedback, the UW has a distinct shape with a compact profile to enhance shot-shaping versatility and provide control. The club lengths are set between that of a fairway wood and hybrid, making it easy to hit whilst still being adaptable for different situations.
The AI designed Batwing structure is pushed out to the perimeter of the head to stiffen the body, allowing the C300 steel face cup to flex for faster ball speeds.
A new Cutwave Pro Sole delivers a streamlined design which improves turf interaction by cutting through the ground more efficiently, encouraging more shot-making when hitting into greens.
Callaway have positioned the centre of gravity into a neutral location to provide a combination of high launch, steeper landing angles, consistent spin and a reduced draw bias.
This makes it a viable option for better players who are looking for a more playable hybrid or fairway wood.
The Apex UW will be available at retail from 8th September and has an RRP of £319.
It's available in 17, 19 and 21 degrees in right-handed, and 17 and 19 degrees only in left-handed.
