Blue Tees golf are a relatively new player in the golf technology world, offering a range of different laser rangefinders, speakers and accessories to make life easier for golfers out on the course.
Founded in 2019, the brand have recently branched out in to the UK golf market and we wanted to put their top of the range Series 3 Max laser to the test. Can they provide the premium quality desired by golfers at an attractive price point?
The Tech
The Series 3 Max is Blue Tees' most expensive and most feature-packed laser, and it has also been their best selling model over the past year or two.
The laser features red optics as well as an auto-ambient display, meaning it is able to automatically adjust the view you'll see through the lens depending on the conditions, to give you the best possible view no matter when or where you play.
Flag Lock and Pulse Vibration functions give you short, vibrating bursts when you lock on to the target to make sure that you've got the right number, whilst the laser is accurate from distances up to 900 yards away thanks to 7x magnification.
A must-have on any new laser these days, the slope switch allows you to toggle adjusted distances on and off to comply with regulations in competition play, and give you that extra edge during social rounds.
A built in magnet with two powerful magnetic plates enables you to attach the laser to a buggy, trolley or other metallic surface.
Blue Tees Series 3 Max Laser Review
Looks and Feel
I think it's fair to say that most rangefinder brands have taken a leaf out of Bushnell's book when it comes to the design of rangefinders and their packaging, and Blue Tees are no different.
In the same way that smartphone brands have all copied the way in which Apple box up their iPhone, when you buy a new rangefinder you'll see it arrive in a small box, complete with carry case, carabiner clip, battery and cloth.
Straight out of the box the all-black colourway looked smart and premium, with a good quality carry case and a simple design.
The device was a nice weight and was comfortable to hold, albeit it is slightly larger in the hand than the likes of the handy Zoom Focus Tour and GolfBuddy GB Laser Lite.
In some ways this makes things slightly easier though, as it helps the device to feel more secure in your hand which is easier for measuring.
Performance
Out on the course I found the Series 3 Max to be easy to use, fast and responsive.
Like most lasers there are just three buttons on the actual device - one to activate the slope switch, one to capture targets and one to change between Scan and Golf modes.
Blue Tees' auto ambient display is something that I haven't seen before in rangefinders, and I thought the adjustment that the device makes to your view depending on the lighting was a fantastic feature.
I tested the laser on one of the hottest days of the year in bright sunshine, so on occasion it could've been hard to pick up the flag because of glare or because I was pointing right back into the sun. The device did a great job of adjusting to make it really clear to see what was going on.
The use of red optics, like on the Bushnell Pro XE, make it easier to read than black in my opinion and so finding a target and receiving a yardage is quick and simple.
If I was to be really picky, I would've liked the numbers towards the bottom of the screen to be a little larger, so that I could more easily see the original yardage and percentage of slope, but this is only a minor gripe.
I compared the laser to the Bushnell Pro XE and the numbers produced were identical pretty much every time - which is a big confidence boost if it can hold it's own against the best in the business.
The case is good and I like the idea of the magnet strap which saves you having to zip up the case every time, although it wasn’t quite strong enough and so tended to come loose.
I'd be a little worried about my laser falling out during the course of a round if it was attached to a trolley or bag without being zipped up.
Blue Tees Series 3 Max Laser Verdict
I was shocked to see that this rangefinder is priced at just £199, and I think this makes the Series 3 Max one of the best value for money lasers I have ever tested.
Although they are a relatively new company, this is the third generation of laser that Blue Tees has made and I think that shows - the build quality is excellent the performance is good and there's a number of little features which indicate that the brand have taken feedback on board from golfers and are keen to make life easier for them out on the course.
If you’re just taking up the game and fast improving, want to use a laser but don’t want to stump up for a Bushnell then I would highly recommend it.
Who is it aimed at?
Anyone! But if you're on a budget and looking for your first laser, this is exactly the type of thing you should be looking for.
Would I use it?
I'm lucky enough to use a Bushnell already but I would have no hesitation in using a Series 3 Max, it performed really well on test.
